2013 STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS

BIKETOBERFEST 2013, DAYTONA BEACH: OCT 17-20

This is a fast paced, run-and-gun type of workshop with a photojournalistic emphasis.  For those unfamiliar with the Daytona Bike Week and Biketoberfest festivities, imagine this:  half a million people converging on one beachside town in a frenzy of chrome, horsepower, booze, and lots of attitudes.  It's a people watcher's paradise and a photographer's playground.  It's dirty, loud, uncivilized, and just a damn good time.

Due to the rapid-fire nature of this workshop, it is recommended for experienced shooters that are very comfortable with their camera equipment, computer equipment, and software.  Some travel is involved from location to location (see schedule), so if you're coming in from out of the area, you will either need to make a friend in the class and carpool, or consider renting a car.

The most important thing to remember is that YOU WILL BE SHOOTING MORE THAN YOU HAVE EVER SHOT BEFORE.  Bring all of the memory cards you can, because there are going to be some long days away from the laptop, so as they say in the Boy Scouts, Be Prepared™.

Required equipment is as follows:

DSLR or comparable mirrorless system camera and appropriate lenses.  Lots of the Biketoberfest activities happen at night, so faster lenses are highly recommended.  If you're unsure about the appropriateness or capabilities of your camera, send me a message and I'll help you out.
Some students in the past have brought tripods out for night sessions, but this is purely optional and may actually just get in the way.
Laptop computer with your editing software of choice and a copy of Photo Mechanic.  This software is free to use for 20 days, so don't download it until a few days before the workshop!  If you download and install it in July, you'll have to buy the full program by October.

Important information:

Biketoberfest attracts nearly a half a million people to a town with a normal population of 65000, so it's important that you book your hotels or arrange for your accommodations well ahead of time.
There will be at least one organized meet + greet session for dinner, but be prepared to eat all of your meals on the run.  Shoot bikers, think like bikers, eat like bikers.

Class Costs:

The workshop fee is $500.  Food, accommodations, and any other costs are extra and to be handled by the student.  A 50% deposit (that's $250 for those of you that hate math) is required within 24 hours of registration and the balance due 30 days before the event.  Your spot will not be reserved until the deposit is paid.

Class availability:

This workshop is only open to 10 students.
